Dutch Princess digital rights.

Recently the Dutch Royal Highness Princess Máxima had her digital camera stolen, during a private visit to Argentina. On this camera were a great number of pictures and video shots, that were taken privately by the Princess and the Prince of Orange, the royal family and others. Homevideo and pictures showed up on the internet and were offered for sale to the media.

Press Relations of the Dutch ministry of General Affairs officially warned the Dutch media that obtaining, publishing or distributing these images was a serious act of crime, violating the private boundaries of the persons involved. The gouvernment office also announced to procecute any media violating article 416 of the Dutch law by publishing these family pictures.

Today journalists and lawyers debate the legal aspects of this infringement case.
