I left the house today to work on my novel for the first time in four months. Only now I realize I don't have Office installed yet on my machine, and my book is in Microsoft Word format.
Inmyroom to the rescue: Free (as in beer) alternatives to Microsoft Word.
I downloaded Abiword and loaded my novel off my keychain drive.
None of this would have worked if I hadn't gotten a very cool gizmo for Mother's Day: a JumpDrive USB flash drive. This is a strip of flash memory in a tiny plastic casing and a ring for clipping it onto your keyring. It amazes me that I can fit my entire website and my whole 60,000 word manuscript on something that I can carry around on my keyring and still have plenty of room to spare.
