Oxford Students Expose Security Leaks, Face Expulsion
Two Oxford University students could be banned from their
studies after exposing serious flaws in the university's IT
network by hacking into it while investigating a story for
the student newspaper. The students say they face
prosecution by a draconian system when they were acting in
the interests of the university community.

NYT hacker Adrian Lamo gets home detention. Adrian Lamo, who gained a reputation as the "homeless hacker" for his itinerant lifestyle, will be considerably easier to find -- at least for the next few months. Lamo was sentenced Thursday to six months of home confinement after pleading guilty in January to charges that he broke into the internal computer network of The New York Times Co. Ah, finally, my second book is on its way to the printer.
Yes, it's mostly reprints of articles which you've already read on this site over the last four years. But there are three huge advantages to the book version. 1) It has been professionally edited. I have finally learned to use semicolons instead of commas to separate complete sentences, and somebody smarter than me has sorted out all the "whiches" and the "thats." 2) You don't have to read it on a computer. 3) You can hurl it at your boss or coworkers to make a point, and the impact will be much more powerful than emailing a URL.
