Understandable Software : NetNewsWire Lite 1.0. "Brent and Ranchero Software receive the very first Understandable Software Award for NetNewsWire Lite 1.0." [Archipelago]
NetNewsWire Lite is an excellent tool for keeping up with the rapid flow of new information streaming from weblogs world wide. Go get it and use it. (if you're not running OSX move to OSX and then get NetNewsWire Lite)  ~  dws.

The 3Cs of Knowledge Sharing: Culture, Co-opetition and Commitment..

David Skyrme asks why people don't share and what can we do about it? Skyrme spells it out.

Why?

  • "Knowledge is power"
  • "not invented here" syndrome
  • Not realizing how useful particular knowledge is to others
  • Lack of trust
  • Lack of time

They read like excuses. What to do?

Change culture. Challenge through co-opetition (healthy competition) and foster commitment. Of all the suggestions, my favorite:

Hire people who will share

I just bought a 6in1 USB Flash Card Reader/Writer from PQI for $30 at Fry's in Austin. It works without drivers on OSX and Windows ME/XP. On my PowerBook with OSX 10.2.1 it just works as expected. [dws.]
"Flirting with Mac OS X"by Moshe Bar

Regular readers of this column already know there is no lost love between me and GUIs. In fact, I rarely use them ...

If you have been using Linux for some time and just love its stability and performance, and find it a natural platform for development, you'll feel right at home on the Mac OS X. On the other hand, if you feel at times frustrated by the difficulty with which modern devices (like wireless, DVD, or FireWire devices) work on Linux, then you might find Mac OS X to be what you've been longing for. I for one, am convinced: I am switching my laptop to Mac OS X. And best of all, you don't have to be ashamed to go to a Linux guru meeting with Mac OS X, because it's just a UNIX with a very nice GUI. [dws.]

On this day last year, I came up with the tagline for this weblog: "There are no Secrets, Only information you don't yet have." Think now about Anderson, Enron, Martha Stewart, Global Warming, Elections........ [Adam Curry: Adam Curry's Weblog] [dws.]

[RadioFAQs]
Radio Wish: comment aggregation. Radio users: Ever notice how painful it is to check for comments people may have left on your Radio weblog? I'm sure I've gotten a few that are tucked away somewhere in my archives, but I don't have the patience to browse everything. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the comments were available as an RSS feed that I could subscribe to? Or simply as a plain summary web page? [Seb's Open Research]

Answer: Comment Monitor by Phillip Pearson

Answer: http://www.dws.us/weblog/categories/radiofaq/2002/08/02.html#a1772

Answer: Well, just when I had freed myself from the RSS aggregator along comes Phil Pearson with a new version of his comment monitor, one that will update me on new comments on my blog... through the RSS aggregator. Damn! But he's developed such good hacks that I'm willing to reopen the RSS floodgates and test this tool. I'll let you know what it does for me, Phil. [Driver 8]

Answer: Wow, that was quick!... [Seb's Open Research] [dws.]
