desire, ask, believe, receive. ~ Stella Terrill Mann

Prayer request from a friend: I was listening to the radio yesterday and heard a story about the bombing in Bali. One of the people mentioned was a guy named Jake Young. I went to Jr High with Jake before his family moved to Midland. The Fox News story mentions his wife and child in Kansas City. Please add them to your prayer list.

Never forget how small this world is and that we all share both ownership and loss when people behave badly.  ~  dws.

kill_a_watt.gifCecil Williams pointed me to "Build a Power Meter for $5", by Patrick Norton; which lead me to the Kill-a-Watt, a device I've wanted for years! Google helped me find the Kill-a-Watt for $40. [dws.]

I hope nobody is surprised by this.

Microsoft delays "smart display" push. Microsoft won't deliver Windows CE for Smart Displays for the holidays, delaying until at least the first quarter of 2003 portable monitors that use the software. [CNET News.com]

Tablet PC's, wireless devices and the convergent Home LAN - just took a hit.

Tatoo this on your forehead: "The world's most valuable company got there by lying, FUD, being a monopoloist and not being able to ship code on time.  They have consistently over the years announced new software intitiatives - either to back out, delay or completely revamp what they announce in public."

I was once at a software developer's meeting at Microsoft - when they announced they were no longer supposrting OS/2.  Most of the developers in the room were happy, except for the poor schmuck sitting next to me.

He had mortgaged his house, and was about to see his company go - "bye-bye".  So the moral of the story is - don't believe Microsoft - they're followers, not leaders.

They let us do the innovating and then steal it - and get away with it - over and over again.

John Gruber: "Bad marketing is one thing. Bald-faced lying is another." [Scripting News]

Microsoft Make-Up. The details of the switcher article, however amusing, are not important. The real story is that at Microsoft -- indisputably one of the most powerful, most successful corporations in the world -- it is standard operating procedure to fabricate customer testimonials... To: Anyone who publishes material related to the sniper in DC,

Please do not give the idiot (sniper) in Washington a title that feeds his/her ego. "The Beltway Sniper" is too glamorous. Refer to him/her with a title that is more fitting, and less likely to be bragged about in prison, such as "The Murdering Coward". [dws.]

Yahoo! News - Joni Mitchell 'Ashamed' to Be in Music Business.

"I hope it all goes down the crapper. I would never take another deal in the record business, which means I may not record again, or I have to figure out a way to sell over the Net or do something else. But I'll be damned if I'll line their pockets."

Joni Mitchell on the music biz.
