How do you spell relief? I finally tired of my daily spam raking ritual and installed PostArmor. Free for personal use, pretty straightforward to run and so far 100% effective. It's also a good example of how nicely Java works on OS X. No extra installation or set up, it just worked. 3:20:09 PM | permalink | comment [] |

We hiked this and swam in the beautiful, spring-fed lake at the top. Finally a lake I could dive into from the shore - no wading with the attendant impulse to change my mind and return to shore rather than swim! 2:19:22 PM | permalink | comment [] |

The empire strikes back. As the music industry's "pay-for-play" scandal deepens, the big five record labels try to crush the expanding power of the dreaded indie promoters. [Salon Headlines]
My $0.02: Commercial radio is now antithetical to the art and love of music. This article illustrates how radio works and why the labels want to maintain the status quo at a lower cost. Same old crap, new low price! |

Our neighbour informed us there's been a bear rooting around in people's garbage just around the corner. Pretty unusual for a populated area in this part of the province. I was born and spent my first few years in Elliot Lake, a small uranium mining town in northern Ontario. There hasn't been any mining there for a very long time and it's been trying to transform itself into a retirement community. Anyway, when I lived there it was pretty common for bears to pop up in the back yards on our street and scatter garbage all over the place. When I was maybe three or four I ran out the back door one morning and nearly fell on top of a bear that had been shot and killed on our back step. I still remember the huge claws and teeth, the thick black fur and the blood oozing from the bear's mouth. 9:49:06 AM | permalink | comment [] |

I'm back after a very relaxing week on the Ottawa River. Swimming, kayaking, reading, boating, hiking, guitar playing and perhaps a bit less sleep than a wiser man would have acquired. But as they say, I'll be dead for a long time and I can catch up on my sleep then Oh yes and my wife's high school reunion, which was surprisingly enjoyable for me. More to come once I've shoveled some email.8:43:10 AM | permalink | comment [] |
