Janis Ian Fallout "Because I know that although RIAA and their supporting companies can afford to spend 55 million dollars a year lobbying Congress and in the courts, they cannot afford to alienate every music buyer and artist out there. At that point, there will be a general strike, make no mistake. Just one week of people refusing to play the radio, buy product, or support our industry in any way, would flex muscles they have no idea are out there." Sound familiar? But I believe the time is now, not later. [Sidebar: I love her footer, "Rude Girl Publishing"] 10:16:11 PM | permalink | comment [] |

From the primo Canadian music department. I've been listening to Lowest of the Low for the first time in a couple years. So many terrific songs on this CD.
Sometimes it's wise To know which way the gun is pointed Before you yell "I see the whites of their eyes" Sometimes you'll find Your senses all distorted by the lines and wires Of salesmen, cheats and liars 9:52:37 PM | permalink | comment [] |

Moochers, whiners and fixtures: Guess who's coming to visit? Leah McLaren. "Summer is overnight-guest high season all over the world, and especially in Canada, where cottage country is besieged by friendly freeloaders (myself, in summers past, among them) looking for dock and lake access in exchange for a case of beer and frozen package of President's Choice sausage rolls."

PS Dave. The most powerful movie about women I've ever seen is Antonia's Line. Bold, insightful, funny, raging and wise. 9:29:51 PM | permalink | comment [] |

I can't believe this. Now the RIAA wants to imprison John Q. Public for file sharing. Of course I'm north of the 49 so this doesn't apply to me unless I'm extradited for that Peaches tune from the movie that's kicking around here somewhere. People, it's time to stop kissing the hand that slaps you. Start with a single day when no one buys a CD, watches a movie or turns on commercial TV or radio. Let them do the math on that. Still want to throw us in jail? One week with zero sales. And so on. It's not hard to do - I'm in the middle of ZMM and frankly quite enjoying it. Imagine the effect if thousands or even millions of us refused to hand over any money. 3:53:21 PM | permalink | comment [] |
