OK, so I was happy about finding not one but two new acts at Summerfolk. Fate, it seems, was not satisfied with even this happy state of affairs. Today I hooked up with two more stunning groups via one of those magical workshops in which musicians discover and elevate each other into wild, unexplored new places and the audience gets to travel with them. Willy and Lobo, who were brilliant in their own workshop, joined forces with Fruit in a workshop that I'll never forget. Fruit is from Australia and if you love energized, funky, hot music do not miss a chance to see this gang. More on both, for sure.

Had a great time at the festival last night. The best part of a music festival is discovery, getting carried away by someone you've never heard of. I consider the weekend a success if that happens once. For Summerfolk 2002 it's happened twice and the second day has yet to begin. First up, Steve Fox was fantastic, dishing up excellent country (yes, country) that combined tight, percussive guitar work, powerful singing and accessible yet insightful songwriting. Amazing. And I ain't the biggest country fan on the planet, by any means. Next surprise was the trio of Albert and Gage (go figure). Spanning country, swing, blues and a dash of rock and roll, these guys were soooo tight.Unbelievable. One highlight was their deft delivery of "My Life", by Iris Dement. An astonishing ballad from someone else I don't know. What a start to the weekend!

10 tips for Writing on the Living Web "To an artist, the smallest grace note and the tiniest flourish may be matters of great importance. Show us the details, teach us why they matter. People are fascinated by detail and enthralled by passion; explain to us why it matters to you, and no detail is too small, no technical question too arcane."
