Wired: "[Verizon] refused to comply with the order, arguing the entertainment industry is presuming the guilt of its users without any due process." [Scripting News]

Good news - it appears that the QuickTime streaming is working fine on MSIE/Windows (thanks Bill!). Curious and yet oh-so-Webish.

Having considerable difficulty getting RadioParadise to stream in MSIE on OS X. Mozilla works fine. I've tried every variation of the OBJECT tag I can look up, but no luck. Grrrr.

OK, one more not-exactly-working task and then I'll behave. I need to redesign my main site to accommodate a link this blog.

Doctors on war footing over Quebec moves "In the fall, Quebec's Minister of Health and Social Services, François Legault, will introduce legislation to require doctors, including those in private practice, to sign contracts with hospitals or regional health boards dictating where they practise and the conditions under which they work. Physicians say the government plans not only to restrict their freedom of movement but to put many of them on salary and strip them of their autonomy. The medical profession in Canada is self-regulating." [The Globe And Mail - National] This is very likely the right way to go. Doctors in Canada are paid through tax dollars and yet operate largely as independent business people. This leads to fuzzy accountability and means they are susceptible to the kind of marketing dollars wielded by pharmaceutical companies. You would not believe the money spent to influence what doctors prescribe, trust me. Prescription drugs account for the bulk of the rapid increase in our health care costs over the last ten years, something that simply has to be reined in. Cleaning up the org chart is a step in the right direction.

I had this brilliant idea a couple weeks ago for a Web site to hookup independent bands and venues. While I've been revelling in the glory of my astounding creativity, someone else has been building it This is a Very Good Thing for live music, exactly what's needed in the face of an increasingly monotone music business.

Ha! If you have QuickTime you should be listening to a low resolution stream from RadioParadise. The controller above the calendar lets you start and stop the music or adjust the volume. I love it! Whaddya think?
