I am sitting in my basement streaming RadioParadise with an embarrassing grin as I post this. Unremarkable? But there are no cables connected to my Powerbook right now. Nada. Bupkus. My new wireless port, all My Favourite Martian with its abbreviated antennae, sits two floors above me and thanks to the minds behind Wireless Driver the Linksys card and base station are doing the deed. Sure I'm the last mook south of the Milky Way to get the Wifi religion. Still it's times like this that let me keep bashing my head against the machine instead of moving to Costa Rica as a beach bar minstrel. Suh-weeeet!

Just bought some wireless network gear for my home office. Must work, must not install right this minute. Must...keep...typing...

Hey I'm number 29 right now. This vindicates my RSP (Rapid Sloppy Post) approach and the accompanying VFR (Very Frequent Revision). In other words, I refresh my own page alot.

"Moon Unit's use of "like" is the sort of thing that causes the pedant to howl in rage, but the linguist is more likely to begin with the assumption that the word must be serving a useful purpose or the speaker would not be using it." Quoth The Raven. Who's on fire at the moment.
It will be crow on my dining table, not raven, when my teenage daughter hears about this.

A picture named smallfrye.jpg Note to self: find and read something by Northrop Frye, preferably his book about William Blake.

Industry takes Kyoto battle nation wide [National Post: Financial Post] "The fact is, the majority of the consumption occurs outside the producing provinces," he said. "The implications of Kyoto go well beyond the oil and gas industry. In fact, the majority of the impact will be felt outside the producing provinces."
I can't for the life of me understand people whose thinking is so disconnected they can make comments like this. You'd think the economy was the prime mover of the universe rather than a convenient abstraction. Get a grip. It's like this: no planet -> no economy, not the other way around. We're only talking about a 6% reduction in emissions, for crying out loud.

British Energy woes raise security concerns [National Post: Financial Post]
This is in the right-around-the-corner department. I have friends and family that work at the Bruce facility, about an hour away. What kind of strategy leads a company to buy one of the largest nuclear plants in the world and then end up nearly broke a couple years later? Not exactly reassuring from a safety or energy price POV.

Ten Best Intranets of 2002 "Even though the full process can take about two years, our winning projects did not hold off until everything was perfect before releasing the new intranets to an unsuspecting public. Some companies had been burned before by "big bang" development projects that took forever to create a hoped-for solution to all problems in a single, delayed release. Instead, all of the winning companies followed a staged approach, gradually releasing new templates, portals, search engines, personalization features, and other components of the full intranet"
Thus spake Jakobthustra: "Lo! I am weary of my wisdom, like the bee that hath gathered too much honey; I need hands outstretched to take it. ";->"
