Alberta targeting Ontario in campaign against Kyoto "He said Alberta is prepared to fight climate change but through a plan outside Kyoto that does not penalize business from coast to coast." [The Globe And Mail - National]
Oh yeah, that plan. Isn't that's the one they've adopted in the US? Skip Kyoto 'cos it might affect somebody's quarterly earnings, pay lip service to how much we love the environment and look for some free, no sacrifice, NIMBY way to protect it.

. . .

I travelled to Poland with my wife's family in the mid-eighties, before the Wall had come down, to visit their maternal relatives. It was my first and only time. It took about 30 hours to get from our starting point in the Ottawa Valley to Nysa by way of Montreal, Amsterdam, and Warsaw. By the time we arrived I was wiped and after some brief introductions and the mandatory vodka, went directly to bed. The next morning when I wandered into the kitchen, my host handed me an unusual looking cup brimming with coffee. The cup consisted of an ornate metal sleeve with a base and handle, and what looked like a small drinking glass sitting inside the sleeve.

Between the time change, the long trip and the vodka I wasn't exactly feeling spry and so I was very grateful for the coffee. I began to drink eagerly and soon felt my mouth filling will something between sand and gravel. I pulled the cup away quickly and noticed a suprised look on my host's face. I then realized I had a mouth full of coffee grounds - not exactly the way I like to start my day. I smiled weakly. After a fair bit of hand-waving and pointing, and eventually some translation, I was enlightened as to the Polish procedure for making coffee:

  1. Place ground coffee (not that instant crap, the real thing) into a cup.
  2. Fill cup with boiling water.
  3. Wait until the grounds saturate and sink to the bottom.
  4. Drink.
In my ignorance I'd missed the all-important third step, much to my chagrin and the host's amusement. I was reminded of this story when my filter folded over this morning and sent most of the grounds into the pot. Make another? Nah! Time for the Polish method.

I've tweaked my design and it seems to work in Opera now. The alignment of the right edges is a bit off but that's OK for now but that's not a big deal for now.

Scott is an RP fan and he's right about some of the links on this page not working in Opera. It seems to be those in this part of the page but just until you get below the blogroll on the right. Then the links work fine. Also the QuickTime plugiin exhibits the same badness it does on MSIE/Mac OS X.
