Rushkoff "But what else is going to get us out of bed in the morning but a little hope that we can actually do something that very day to make a positive difference - in our own lives or, even better, in someone else's?"
This question was put succinctly in a song by The Fabulous Thunderbirds, "Why Get Up?". I think we get up because
  • We need to participate in the world, to weave ourselves into the fabric of everyday and - more importantly - mythic experience
  • We've been taught to feel guilty if we don't; as in lazy, irresponsible, unreliable and so on
  • We can't reach the coffee pot from the bed

A State of Emergency is coming to a PlayStation near you: "Wolpaw even examined one popular gamer bulletin board to see if interest in anti-globalization issues had been spurred by State of Emergency. But so far, "after wading through 46 pages of posts, I couldn't find a single message dealing with the WTO, capitalism or Indonesian child laborers ... On the other hand, I did find a lot of posters begging for the code that makes people's heads pop off when you punch them."
