Scott Rosenberg's Links & Comment - The Pitts

"Today, we learn that Webster actually told Pitt before the vote about what seems like a serious and highly relevant matter: Webster had till recently headed the audit committee of a corporation, U.S. Technologies, that was being charged with fraud. "

A good summary from Scott about recent developments in a situation I've mentioned here before.  It turns out that Pitt's choice over John Bigg's - former FBI chief William Webster - revealed some ethical sticky wickets to Pitt before he was appointed.  Pitt has to go, but I suspect if the Democrats don't hold some power after next Tuesday, Bush will see no reason to have him removed.  Ahhh, corporate reform...

Tehran <-> Washington, DC 1970-1973 teen girl blog

"Photo perhaps taken as Kathy and Hilary head off to Washington to protest U.S. bombing in Cambodia. Kathy is sure she's dressed just like John Lennon on the cover of Abbey Road. Without the beard."

After a 2 week break, Hillary and Kathy are back with a great picture.

Economist.com - Securing the cloud

"Until recently, most people were either unaware of computer security or regarded it as unimportant. That used to be broadly true, except in a few specialised areas—such as banking, aerospace and military applications—that rely on computers and networks being hard to break into and not going wrong. But now consumers, companies and governments around the world are sitting up and taking notice. Why?"

A very good article on the increasing importance, and the public awareness of the problems of information security.  It cites the emerging view of computer and network as utilities - along the lines of phone and water - and the hightened awareness of security in general after 9/11 as reasons for the burgeoning public awareness of the problem, and industries reaction to this awareness.

World Tribune.com - Israel concludes war with Iraq is no longer imminent

"Israel has revised its assessment of a U.S.-led war against Iraq.

Defense officials said the United States appears to have shelved plans for an imminent war against the regime of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. They said the Bush administration has delayed any attack on Baghdad until early 2003."

Looks like Bush might be planning to give peace a chance, at least until next year.  Besides, the sword rattling has served its purpose.  If this is true, look for it to be announced sometime after next Tuesday.
