I really shouldn't be posting this, but I've posted a story just now, regarding the subject I couldn't talk about earlier. And still shouldn't - so Joanna, if you're reading this, please don't click on the link, or read any comments here. I don't think you're going to read this... but just to be safe. PLEASE. I'll explain later.

Are Games Art?. "For Arp, art is Arp." - Marcel Duchamp Here at the small game development team where I work, we are prone to inane and never-ending debates about such relevant topics as whether computer games are art or not. This could very well explain why we have not made it to the top of the charts. I can not leave my fellow kuro5hiners out of all the fun. [kuro5hin.org]

IMHO, everything can be art. It's a matter of intent of the creator, and/or perception of the viewer. Then again, I think that source code is art. What do I know?

I'm having a bitch of a time right now...there's something I really want to blog about, but I can't - someone who might (though almost certainly won't) read this site doesn't know yet. It's not a good thing...in fact, it's a pretty fucking disturbing and painful thing. I've written about it - I've got an entry ready to go that I really want to post, but I can't. This is hard...

So some guy at ESPN.com misquoted some information about Lycoming College in Pennsylvania - don't ask. He said that they were the first co-ed school in the country. Being a...well, alum isn't technically the term...ex-student? yeah. Being an ex-student of the college that actually WAS the first to offer degrees to women, AND was also the first racially integrated college,  I had to respond. =) What's more, the column is about football - and Oberlin's got great football stories. Heisman (of Heisman trophy fame) had his first coaching job there - the trophy is actually stored in Oberlin for most of the year. Oh, and Oberlin has the worst varsity football team on the planet - one win in the '90s, by the score of 17-15, over a college called Thiel. We lost to Swarthmore a couple years later - after our win, they had the longest losing streak in the country. After they beat Oberlin, they folded their varsity football team. I told that story to someone once, and he thought Swarthmore was still a girl's school. I wish it was - it'd be even funnier. =)

Joe Conason's Journal. A time to remember, sure, but also for the government to stop stonewalling. Plus: Jeb Bush's strange complaint of Christian persecution. [Salon Headlines]

Can I assume we have Michael Jackson to blame for the insipid rendition of the Beatles' song "All Together Now" I just heard in a Verizon ad? Here in NY the media introspection on the upcoming anniversary beats like a drum. [Christian Crumlish (xian): x-pollen]

Actually, I think Sony may own the Beatles' songs outright now...

EDIT: no, it's shared - Jackson sold half of the Beatles' publishing rights to Sony a while back.

Al-Qaeda 'planning attacks against US'. Washington says it has firm information that the al-Qaeda network is planning attacks on US interests in Asia and the Middle East. [BBC News | WORLD]

We're on Orange Alert now, right? Is that worse than Yellow? Should I go to the fallout shelter now? Everything would be so much simpler if they just used air-raid sirens like they used to, wouldn't it?

Haha! I escaped from the class from hell! I ended up ditching at lunch (11:30) this morning - I'd had all the classwork and reading done since yesterday afternoon. I couldn't take it any more - so I paged myself with an "emergency" back at the office. I got my certificate and a free shirt, and went merrily on my way. Sure, I've been insanely busy at work since, but this means tomorrow will be relatively painless... =)

A couple things:

There is a God, or at least some higher power looking out for me: I woke up good and late this morning. I've already missed about 15 minutes of my training class today...I'll be there in an hour or so, but still - any minute of that snorefest I can miss is a f'n blessing.

On SportsCenter, they referred to Gillette Stadium, the new home of the New England Patriots, as 'The Big Razor'. Niiice.

Tonight, I've decided to try out an idea I had a little while ago. Directly inspired by Bill Simmons at ESPN.com's Page2, who has made an artform out of his movie/event-watching journals, I'm going to real-time-blog while watching a movie tonight. It seems like it could be interesting. I'm trying to decide between three recently-purchased movies, all of which are favorites of mine I've seen multiple times already: 12 Monkeys, Three Kings, or Run Lola Run. Any suggestions?

Right - now I've really got to go to that damn class. My freedom is over. =)
