The Salon blogs server is down right now - I can upstream, but not downstream. Last time this happened, I was seriously considering emailing Dave Winer, even though he's not involved in day-to-day activities with Userland right now, but I thought he might be able to get a reaction out of the support guy. The support guy DID eventually get us back online that time, but that wasn't a weekend...and I'm going to be seeing Dave Winer (along with a bunch of other people, true) tomorrow. So I might mention this, if it's still down. I'm also seriously considering making the move to Movable Type. I've got a web host now, and MT is Perl-based, meaning that I can actually hack it as much as I want...I need to read more... |

Report: Bush Expresses Support for Rush. The Drudge Report has this developing exclusive report: President Bush expressed support of radio star Rush Limbaugh in conversations with... [TalkLeft: The Politics of Crime] You've GOT to be kidding me - Bush is defending Rush Limbaugh, disgraced racist and suspected pill-popper? I'd've expected Bush to run as far away from Limbaugh as possible at this point. |

Arnie 'chased Nazis' in Austria. Recollections by a family friend appear to back up the Hollywood actor's claim to be a firm anti-Nazi. [BBC News | World | UK Edition] They're saying Arnie chased some neo-Nazis when he was a teenager, or some shit. So he hates neo-Nazis - great. Nazis (Kurt Waldheim, anyone?) do still seem to be a different matter. And does anyone actually think it's a good idea to elect a governor who has questions about whether or not he's a freakin' NAZI?!? California is SO messed up. =) |

WEEI host off air for remark. Boston Globe Oct 3 2003 11:11AM ET [Moreover - Boston news] GOOD. This was John Dennis, by the way, who made a comment saying that the gorilla that escaped from a Boston zoo this week was "probably a Metco gorilla waiting for a bus to take him to Lexington." Metco is basically a bussing program, sending Boston kids to suburban schools. That's pretty horrible. Dennis (and his partner, Gerry Callahan) try very, very hard to be Imus crossed with Rush crossed with SportsCenter - and manage to suck more than any of them (except Rush, of course). Their faux-twentysomething-guys-at-a-bar schtick doesn't work that well when you remember that they're in their 40s or 50s...argh. I hated these bastards for a while, and it's nice to see them FINALLY get called on their offensive crap. |

Wes Clark's War. It is worth taking a step back and taking a fuller look at the record of the newest Democratic presidential hopeful. By Michael R. Gordon. [New York Times: NYT HomePage] Very good read - debunks all the crap the rightists (and some leftists) are throwing around about Clark in the Balkans. |

Valerie Plame's Real Job. VALERIE PLAME'S REAL JOB....What does Valerie Plame actually do for the CIA? That's one of the $64,000 questions (the other is who the leakers are), so this might be a good time to gather together all the evidence in one... [CalPundit] Kevin Drum puts it all together far better than I could. |

Apologies for the slow blogging - I've been trying to do actual WORK today. I know, heaven forbid. =) I've been digging Cisco's SoftPhone too - VOIP, but it also hooks into the IP phone systems we have at our desks...so I've got a live phone here with very good sound quality - and when someone dials my number at work, my computer rings. In fact, it rang while I was writing that last sentence...fun stuff. Anyway - I'll be at BloggerCon tomorrow, so I'll try to post as often as I can while there. I might have some more here later today, but probably not - more work and then Arwen and I are going to see the new Jack Black movie, followed promptly by me going to bed so that I can wake up in time to get to BloggerCon in Cambridge for 7am breakfast. =) Oh - another thing. The project I've mentioned before needs a web designer. I've got a friend who might be doing it, but I haven't heard back from her for a few days, so I'm on the market for a designer. If you're a Democrat and interested in doing some work to help fight the good fight (more details available, of course, to those who contact me - I've been told not to leak anything publicly yet) - please, let me know via email at abayer@cisco.com . There will be some money in it, but not a lot - maybe a couple hundred bucks - but it will definitely be good work for beating the Republicans. =) |
