Today's reasons why I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer:
1. It's smart. BTVS refuses to talk down to its viewers. The writers weave together mythology, pop culture, and high art - all without overwhelming the essential story of each episode.
2. It's funny. BTVS continues to provide fresh wit and humor on TV without resorting to old jokes or laugh tracks. Its use of language is playful and innovative.
3. It's subversive. BTVS turns the action drama on its head. It combines elements of comedy, drama and action into a completely new mix. Character development doesn't suffer just because there's a big action sequence in the episode. Continuity is excellent. Did I mention it's smartly subversive? Paradigms fall and are re-born with different purpose. A little blonde girl kicks everyone's butt.
