OK, I'm at my boiling point. My partner just called me and gave me the news that the appraiserassessor came up with a value way less than even our realtor wanted us to use. Needless to say, I trust our realtor even less now, and I am going to take a look at the appraiserassessor's report. Gosh, I can just see our realtor's reaction when I ask her for it. "What, you don't trust me?" (she has said this before too)... "Um, yeah, you got it. I do not trust you." She didn't want us to even get an appraiserassessor's opinion in the first place, and was "gracious" enough to pay for this one. Us being the naive sellers were all "Oh, how nice of you to pay for the appraiserassessor. I'm sure you'll get a good one."
Am I being paranoid? Why would our realtor want to screw us? She gets a percentage of the deal, so you'd think that she'd be on our side. As it is now, I'm not sure that we can afford to get this new house. Agh. I'm going home. Wherever that may be...

SpamNet
This is from the latest Wired hard-copy... There is a Great Idea out there in the form of "SpamNet" from Cloudmark, a company founded by Napster co-founder Jordan Ritter and Vipul Ved Prakash, who created the largest open-source spam killer project.
SpamNet is an Outlook add-on (2000/XP, Express version is "coming soon") that uses distributed info to continually improve its ability to detect spam. They say they're at about 75% success now, but the number's only going to increase as more data points are defined. I am running it now.
Check it out here.

The Move '02 update
[edit: I always get my terms mixed up. Replace "assess" with "appraise", below. I think. Anyway, the appraiserassessor guy just looks at upgrades, square footage, and so on. The inspector is the scary guy that looks at age of appliances, electrical, plumbing. Prospective buyers are the ones that order an inspection.]
The assessor's run-through of our old house on Friday afternoon went well I think. It turns out that (the assessor thinks anyways) the county's records might be off by as much as 500 square feet-- we have more sq.ft. than they have recorded. This is good! He's not sure if they are missing the 3rd floor (converted attic), or the two-story addition in the back of the house. He is going to have his report finished by this afternoon I guess, so we'll see what he came up with.
And to think our realtor didn't even want to have it reassessed before we decided on an offer price... If the "official" square footage gets adjusted upwards, the reassessment will have been a very important step!
Meanwhile, it's time to discover how much of a slob I really am. Cleaning out closets... showers (ugh)... etc... My other half did manage to enlist someone he works with who wanted some extra money, and she has been cleaning our kitchen for a small fee. That has helped a lot. My mantra "It'll be over soon" is already starting to wear thin.
