The Move '02: the open house
OK, update time. I took last Friday off to take care of some last-minute chores before our open house on Sunday (Saturday was already full of OTHER chores). I painted the front porch floor, and replaced our instant-hot water dispenser in the kitchen, and did some general cleaning. I still haven't figured out how to post from home, so hence no updates over the weekend.
Yesterday was a big day. We were up by 7AM to get ready to head over to the park for AIDS Walk. My partner was in charge of collecting for the home health care company he works for, so he had to set up camp at the group table w/ food & OJ, etc. The walk was fun, and quite tiring. My legs and hips were sore by the end of the 10K. But it's always inspiring to see that many people in one place for a common goal. Of course, NuClia Waste was in full force... The image on the right is from an earlier event this year and were stolen from NuClia's website-- NuClia's the one in the red & yellow, as if you could miss her...
So we were done with the Walk festivities by 2PM or so, but we had to be absent from our house until 5PM, so we loaded the dogs into the car and headed into the hills. Originally, we had wanted to visit some burn areas, but the fact was, we really couldn't find any. We didn't bring a map, and getting lost on some dirt road somewhere wasn't an option... So we just drove around. Geez, the Rockies are beautiful-- we took the "Scenic Byway" that passes St. Mary's Glacier. Ran the dogs around a bit, and it was time to head back to see how the open house went.
Our realtor was very optimistic. Although there were no actual offers, several people seemed genuinely interested. She said at least 60 people showed up. And that no one even tried to turn on the new instant-hot dispenser! Dang, and I thought that was such a cool think to have in a kitchen. And even though there were two signs prominently displayed along the AIDS walk route advertising our house, she didn't think too many were a direct result of those signs. So, I guess the open house was a success-- just getting that many people in to see the property is definitely a Good Thing.
Also, other good news-- we had the new house appraised by a different appraiser that lowballed our old house, and we got a more realistic figure. So, now we're back to being friends with the bank (they will now loan us the money to get the new house again). So now I don't have to worry about not having a house to live in... I can still worry about having two houses though. LOL. More later.
