Getting the Message About IM. For years, users of instant messaging tools have clamored for the interoperability of those applications. The recent agreement by Microsoft and AOL to make their IM platforms work together suggests that day may be coming. By Joanna Glasner. [Wired News]

Quite a while ago I switched over to Trillian, to try to make my life a bit easier.  I have accounts on AIM, MSN, and Yahoo, and more than one account on some of them.  Trillian, for those that don't know, is one program that connects to all your different IM servers, be it AIM, MSN, Yahoo, IRC, or ICQ I believe.  It is all in one consistent interface, and although it seems like you are using on IM client, and you are, you can connect to many.  It also has many features that the regular clients don't have, such as chat logging.  I highly recomend the program to anyone who uses more than one IM client, or anyone who simply want's to try a different way of doing things.

Dastar decided -- correctly. The Supreme Court has unanimously decided the Dastar case -- and correctly. The issue was whether a film producer could be held $1.5m liable for using a public domain film without giving credit to the former copyright owner. The decision is being described as a loss for 20th Century Fox. It is more accurately a gain for the public domain. [Lessig Blog]

At G-8 Summit, Bush Focuses on Iran and North Korea [New York Times: International News]

I do believe that those with power must help those who don't.  There is no doubt that in the current world climate, the United States is the one with that power.  However, when the US goes about using its power in the world, it is not to benifit others, only to what the leaders percieve to be its own benifit. which in many cases I believe is a shortsighted view.  I was against the war in Iraq, not because I didn't think that action needed to be taken there, but because I didn't think that the Bush administration was the one to decide what action needed to be taken.  Espcially when that action is taken on the pretext of made-up information.  As soon as it became apparent that there were no weapons of mass-destruction in Iraq, suddenly the war came about liberating the people of Iraq.  If that was the true reason, we would be taking action in a lot more places in the world.  The US has a horrible record of taking action in the world.  We are the one's who helped Osama Bin Laden become powerful, we helped Sadam Hussein become powerful.  He use short term solutions to solve long term problems.  Our solutions to problems become even greater problems later on.  We are a very short sighted nation, and that is our greatest problem in the world.  Once we fix that, maybe we will be able to figure out what actions to take in the world.
