Docs Boost Net Download Speed. Researchers at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena are developing a faster Internet connection system that could dramatically improve the speed of downloads. Microsoft and Disney are considering using the new system for video on demand. [Wired News]

I'm thinking this is similar to changing your MTU (which is packet size) to a higher number. Currently, you can only go to 1500.  I think I like this idea.

From the ACLU mailing list:
1) Speak Out: Flag Amendment Passes House - Thank or Spank Your Representative
On Tuesday the House narrowly passed the flag desecration amendment.  This amendment would alter the First Amendment for the first time in its history and allow Congress to outlaw the physical desecration of the flag. By voting to protect a national symbol at the expense of the freedoms it represents, the amendment's supporters voted to fundamentally alter our freedom of speech and our ability to protest the policies of the government.   It is crucial that you to write your Representative and thank or spank them for their vote on the flag desecration amendment.

Here's what I added to the beginning of my letter:

"It is not the flag that is important, but rather what the flag stands for that is important.  By taking away a citizens right to burn a flag, you are taking away the very freedoms that the flag stands for."

If this becomes law, you will see me on campus, burning a flag in protest...

Palm to Buy Handspring for $170 Million in Stock [New York Times: Technology]

On one hand, I think the competition has been good for the handheld market, on the other hand, either company going bust isn't gonna do anyone any good.  SO maybe this will be good, I'm gonna be optimistic.

Play It Again, RIAA: Sue Morpheus. The recording industry is playing an old song: It has filed a new copyright-infringement suit against Streamcast, makers of the popular Morpheus file-sharing service. The suit involves a Web radio service never launched by Streamcast. [Wired News]

Adventures in smog trading. A world market for buying and selling pollution credits is poised to take off and could be our best chance to stop global warming. Too bad George Bush won't let it happen. [Salon.com]
