In honor of crappy impromptu business travel:

Travel tip for the Woman on the Go

One of my most indispensable travel items is my pashmina shawl. I have three of them. If you travel by plane frequently and don’t have one, you can get one on eBay very reasonably.

The pashmina is like Arthur Dent’s towel: it has a thousand-and-one uses. It doesn’t even need to be real pashmina, but real pashmina is warmer. It just needs to be at least 30” x 80” inches.

Here are a few:

-          It’s a fact that people who are dressed “better” are chosen for first-class upgrades more often. Drape your pashmina over your t-shirt and look like you’re just coming back from a weekend on the Cape.

-          Leave the sweater at home and stick your pashmina in your purse. It takes up about %60 – 80 less room and is just as warm.

-          Drape it over your head for when the sun is too intense and you forgot your hat. It can add an air of mystery…or make you look like an old European woman in mourning. Either way, you won’t get sunburned, and that’s what’s important.

-          Wrap it around your waist or over your shoulders when going to a place that requires more modesty, like a church or another site of religious significance.

-          Use it as a blanket when your flight is delayed and you’re stuck in the airport overnight.

-          Roll it up and use it as a neck or lumbar support for long flights.

-          Lay it out on the bed when you find yourself stuck with lodging of questionable cleanliness standards.

Use it to carry lightweight souvenir purchases when you don’t have a bag handy.
