Re: Just in case you’re curious…
The difference between underwire and non-underwire bras, from yesterday’s comments:
There are about a million different kinds of bras, but most of them can be divided into underwired and non-underwired. Underwired bras traditionally provide more "shaping and support" then non-underwired bras.
Up until about the sixties, all bras were "boned" (inset with strips of metal) and underwired because fashion dictated women have a very "shaped" figure (think Betty Grable or Lucille Ball). In the sixties, a more natural shape came into fashion and they started making bras without underwire, much to the relief to women who had to put up with little strips of metal poking them in the ribs every time they moved.
These days, modern technology has led to the development of bras that support pretty well without underwire and are adequate for most small to average-sized women (bust size, not height). However, bras are a very individual choice, and some women still prefer the support or look of an underwire bra (and this saucy ensemble from Agent Provocateur will tell you why).
Note: that link was totally unnecessary. I just want to plug my favorite designer of absurdly expensive sassy undies. Kids, get your parents' permission.
