Re: Even More

Rerun verdicts

The Nanny: Fran Drescher exploits her abrasive voice and New York Jewish stereotypes for laughs. The Verdict: shouldn’t be funny, but is.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch: Caroline Rhea and the girl from “Clarissa Explains it All” in a show filled with clever pop references. The Verdict: Should be cute, but isn’t.

Charmed: Three smart, cute witches chase demons in San Francisco, live in a great house, have a great theme song (cover of a Smiths song). The Verdict: Should be interesting, but isn’t.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Sarah Michelle Gellar and a guy with a fake British accent. The Verdict: Shouldn’t be fabulous, but is.

PSA billboard

I live in what’s euphemistically called a “transitional neighborhood”, and most of the billboard space is rented by the Department of Health and Human Services, warning about HIV infection, drug use, child abuse (lots of abuses), but my favorite is one that the low-bid advertising wizards have come up with regarding unplanned pregnancy:

A good-looking young Hispanic guy in soft-focus profile, with the ad copy: “An unplanned pregnancy isn’t in my plans.”

Well, duh. Unplanned pregnancies aren’t in anyone’s plans; they’re unplanned.

Neil – Patrick Harris on Broadway

The Doogie Howser guy is on Caroline Rhea’s show right now. He’s starring in “Caberet” and has dyed his hair black, but he looks like that guy in high school who used to be in “Academic Decathlon” until his parents got divorced and he turned Goth.

It’s tough to be a child star on a wildly successful TV show. You basically have to become a junkie prostitute performance artist to get anyone to see you as older then twelve.
