Re: Portable water solutions

I'm one of those annoying people who's always sucking on a water bottle, wherever I am.

I've run into a bit of a problem. I like to reuse commercial water bottles, but I've decided this isn't a very sanitary practice. Additionally, it's not a very classy look, either.

I need a spillproof, packable, sanitary solution for my water-drinking habit that I can gracefully use in formal situations.

I bought a Nalgene bottle, which has that mountainsport look, but it's clunky, noisy, and sloshes like you wouldn't believe. It's best for hiking and home use, but not for anywhere you'll need something more low-profile.

I have several cycling-style squeeze-bottles, which are fine, but not subtle: you have to turn them upside down to use them, and that's not something you can pull off in a business meeting.

REI has lots of innovative solutions: There's the parka-pocket soft plastic canteen, which I like on an aesthetic level but also isn't so subtle. Hydration packs are super-cool, but people are always a little suspicious of anything one sips from a tube (and rightly so).

Of course, there's the classic stainless steel briefcase flask. Expensive, hard to clean, fill, and carry, but it looks good.

The compromise is the Thermos sport bottle. It looks good, has a sport pull-top, but only holds 18 oz. and is harder to clean.
