Re: Pets

I haven't had a pet for years, and the thought depresses me. When I was growing up, I had animals around. So I brought up the whole pet idea to Beej; he was dead set against it.

I was surprised by his reaction. When HE was growing up, he had tons of animals around, and being a pirate enthusiast, I figured he'd go for it, but no.

  I really want a parrot.

When I was a kid, my friends and I were really into parrots. We helped raise a few, and I've always thought when I had the space and the money I would get one.

However, there are downsides to parrot ownership: for one thing, they live for an average of thirty years, and have been known to live for up to a hundred years. They're very social and need a lot of attention, and when they don't get it, they do very bad things, like bite fingers (their beaks are very powerful) and uncontrolled screaming.

So Beej offered me a compromise: I can get a robot parrot (he likes the off-switch), or I can tie a bunch of parrakeets together.

  *hrmph*
