Re: High Finance
Yesterday morning, I made a tuition payment that is bigger than any payment I've ever made in my life.
It wasn't big in a "corporate budget" kind of way, or even a "house down payment in the the Bay Area" kind of way. I've dealt with larger amounts of money before. The only difference is that this was my money.
I'm financing my education myself, and I've been scrimping and saving for the past seven years. This is the first time I've ever paid that amount of money, in cash, with money that I earned myself.
Since I had to pay in Euros, it was kind of an exchange-rate roulette: when the transaction began, the rate was 1.1766 to one. Ten minutes into it, the rate was 1.1555 to 1. That may not seem like a big deal, but when you're dealing with tens of thousands of dollars, it can be a several hundred dollar difference.
I don't know if I could take that kind of excitement on a regular basis.
