Re: End of an era?

Wow. I put in my notice today at the company I have worked at for almost exactly five years.

Either it hasn't hit me yet, or I'm just not really all that moved by it, because I don't feel particularly bad about it.

It's not that I won't miss my friends and the work and all the things that go with spending fourteen hours per day, five days per week with the same group of people in various strange cities. It's just that I'm so damn tired of that routine.

I have completely lost touch with any and all life outside the consulting lifestyle, which isn't unusual, but it's sort of an icky way to live.

It's that "work hard, play harder, never take a second to think about where the hell your life is going" lifestyle. The next thing you know, you're 30 and you can't remember much of the years between University and now and the last time you saw your actual friends (the ones you don't work with) they were all married with kids and you don't remember hearing about any of that happening.

It's like being in a stasis field where you're let out for weekends and holidays from time to time.
