Re: Rap Videos
I know it's passe' to be shocked by things one sees in rap videos, but I just don't know what to make of this one.
I was watching a video of a song by marginally-talented rapper 50 Cent. The song is proclaiming his alleged pimpitude. The video is basically a Platonic ideal of what a gathering of pimps would be like, including a curled-and-primped Snoop Dog, Cristal and all the usual bling-bling.
Okay, I expect rappers to be mysogynistic pigs. That's their shtick. But I was thrown a curve ball when there was a scene of two scantily-clad models wearing dog collars and being led on leashes. The next scene we're shown who's holding those leashes: a gorgeous female pimp.
Very clever, Mr. 50 Cent. It's not offensive if it's a woman treating other women like animals. Oy.
