I'm Coming Out

After 10 years of denying it. Lying to friends, family, and worst of all myself, it's time to just say screw it and admit it... I like Apple. Ever since OS X was released my opinion of Apple and their products has changed 100%. Now, people who know me will tell you I'm a die-hard PC guy. Still, over the last three of four years, PC technology (outside of maybe games/3D) has been pretty much stagnant. Windows just keeps getting more and more bloated and ugly. At the same time, Mac/Apple has been getting better and better.

The first thing that Apple did to win me was dumping OS 9 and ushering in OS X. A bold move, and in the end, a smart one. Microsoft has been pussyfooting with Windows since 1989. Every iteration of Windows is just bloaty new stuff on top of old creaky legacy crap. Apple at least had the balls to say "screw it" and start from a clean canvas.

Next was the new iBook. Now if it ain't sexy, what is? I have to admit, I was one of those people who laughed at the old iBook (and for good reason!). Still, the new, non-purse looking models are damn attractive. I really have to laugh at what attractive means when it comes to PC notebooks. I have an IBM ThinkPad that is on it's last leg. Everyday I am fighting the urge go down to the new SOHO Apple Store to pick up an iBook.

Finally, it's the iPod that really did it for me. Here is an MP3 player that totally decimates any competition when it comes to style, form-factor, and ease of use. What's really to be said about the iPod other than, it rocks? The fact that it is now officially compatible with Windows is merely icing (and hella sales for Apple).

Now it's not all praise for Apple. Some things still are not all there. The new iLamp for instance. I think it's just stupid looking. Pricing, is also a weak point. All those uninformed Mhz counters simply can't justify paying two-large for a 700Mhz machine. Drop the price of the 14" iBook to $1,200 and I will be one of the first in line to buy it.

One last thing. Apple, PLEASE stop with those annoying switch ads. Though I may sound like a switch ad myself, seeing folks like Mark Frauenfelder plastered on every bus stop leads to negative (violent?) thoughts about Apple over time.

My name's Chris, I am an uber-geek.

All Signs Point to... Meh.

Two pieces of advice for Mr. Shyamalan. One, get away from the sci-fi/supernatural stuff. You're a great people director, but you lose it when you go all camp sci-fi on us. Two, stop trying to make movies where it all comes together at the end in a nice little package with a message. You are going to get pigeon-holed as the "movie with meaning" guy.
