Of Artists

As Eric and Morgan pointed out, artist Eric Fischl's 9/11 piece has been covered because it was considered offensive.

I don't really get artists. I actually come from a long line of them. My grandfather did a lot of the carvings and sculptures inside The New York Public Library. His brother did the actual sculpting of Patience and Fortitude, the NYPL lions. Too bad the poor guinea immigrant didn't get any credit for the job. Edward Clark Potter (Englishman, hmmm), the designer, got the all credit.

My brother and I were also NYC artists. Well, he used to bomb 6 line and I the bridges and tunnels of the Bronx. That was many, many years ago. Graf is art.

I now live in the artistic Mecca of Brooklyn. All sorts of goofy guys with thick black glasses walk around here. I still do a lot of painting, mainly oils. I pretty much suck but if I tried I would certainly be better than most of the shock-hacks out there like Eric Fischl and the guy who did the Virgin Mary out of elephant dung.

My point? Who the fuck knows? Maybe it's just that some artists have to realize just because you make some shocking art, it does not make you special, or creative, or anything but a button-pusher. Use your "talent" towards something productive. Not these weak attempts at stirring things up. It's so not punk.
