25 Years of the Pistols
25 years ago Monday, the Sex Pistols released their first and only album. Reuters has a great article up about the anniversary.
The seminal album of British punk rock celebrates its 25th birthday on Monday and shows no sign of growing old gracefully.
On October 28, 1977, the Sex Pistols unleashed their debut album, "Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols," on an unsuspecting world.
This album is without a doubt the greatest ever made. You can argue that they were totally marketed. You can argue that they sucked at playing their instruments. I don't care. As one person at slashdot so brillantly put it:
1. They hated each other
2. They hated you
3. They made one stellar, brilliant album
4. They broke up
That's what I'm talking about! While I give Nirvana props for knocking Jacko of the top 100 charts, they could only wish to be as earth shattering as The Pistols.
That apathetic heroin needle pinhole cushion Kurt Cobain was a pale imitation of Sid, that apathetic heroin needle pinhole himself. Hey, at least Sid had the good sense to flat-blast Nancy before offing himself, thus saving the world years of wanky, Courtney Love/Hole style bollocks.
Here's to 25 more. If the next 25 years of music are as shitty as the past 25, I'm packing "Bollocks" on my iPod forever. 6:25:57 PM |
