Jam Master Jay RIP
This is really sad news to me. Jam Master Jay (Jason Mizell) DJ for the group Run-DMC was gunned down last night in Jamacia Queens. Unlike The Notorious BIG and Tupac Shakur, drug dealer and rapist respectively, Mizell was never into any "thug" nonsense. Mizell and Run-DMC were always into spreading a positive message and reaching out to the community.
It's reminiscent of the death of Scott la Rock (Scott Sterling) former youth counselor turned DJ for the group Boogie Down Productions. Sterling was shot and killed in the Bronx in 1987 attempting to break up a fight between two youths.
Run DMC existed in a time when hip-hop music existed for entertainment. Even as the music became poisoned with idiotic thug yammering, Run-DMC stuck to their roots and positive message. RIP Jay.
