Chaords Everywhere I Look
Chaords are a cross between chaos and order. They describe my life and my philosophy (at the present).

Chaords everywhere I look.

Well, not yet. But soon.

Let me explain a little. Chaord is a new word. Dee Hock, founder of Visa International, came up with it. It represents an organization that effectively merges chaos with order. He christened the word when he was reading the book Complexity: The Emerging Science at the Edge of Order and Chaos by M. Mitchell Waldrop. Dee thought it was interesting because much of what Waldrop described in the book in terms of biology, computer science, physics and economics sounded a lot like what made VISA work in the early days. A "chaordic" approach to organization. Here's Dee's book.

But Dee Hock has gone much further than just the word. He has created an organization called the Chaordic Commons to help create new chaordic organizations, which he sees as the only possible future to get us out of our current organizational mess. (He thought that before Enron.)

So why am I writing about chaords? I'm an owning member in Dee's organization, and I am beginning my journey to establish a chaordic organization. I'm keeping this log of my progress, plus as a place to put my thoughts about chaords. Sometimes it just helps to put things down. It would help even more if someone else reads it and then jumps to the next thought beyond what I've done. Feel free.

I think blogs are really cool. I think they're a big step towards global collaboration and to a better world society. I just can't articulate why yet.

Maybe blogs will turn out to be a chaordic organization themselves. We'll see, I guess.

This blog may be more personal than other blogs I've read on Salon. Some blogs seem to be a listing of current news events and the blogger's opinions on them. Others seem to be pretty philosophical, but not that personal. Maybe it's a mistake for me to get personal, but for now, it feels right.
