Chapter 2: A Peck of Owls

Mrs Figg reveals that she is a Squib, a witch without magical talent, and using her cat, Mr Tibbles, to keep an eye out for Harry. She is angry at Mundungus Fletcher who was supposed to be protecting Harry but went off to buy some black-market cauldrons.

Returning to Privet Drive, Harry receives an owl from the Ministry of Magic charging him with underage use of magic and informing that he is expelled from Hogwarts. With the threat of having his wand confiscated he decides to leave Privet Drive for good.

However, Harry receives an owl from Mr Weasley telling him not to leave, not to do magic and not to surrender his wand. Uncle Vernon tries to kick Harry out but he follows the advice of the letter and stays. Aunt Petunia then reveals she knows more about the wizarding world than we thought and insists that Harry stays in the house to Uncle Vernon’s surprise.
