Chapter 8: The Hearing

Harry discovers he is being tried before the full Wizengamot, chaired by Cornelius Fudge. Dumbledore appears as a witness for the defense. Fudge seems disappointed that Dumbledore made it - they obviously tried to make the hearing happen without him.

Fudge presents all the facts of the case except that there were dementors and that Harry was trying to save his own life. The rest of the Wizengamot are very surprised to hear about it. Percy Weasley is the court clerk assisting Fudge.

Fudge tries to dismiss Harry’s claims and those of his witnesses. He also suggests to Dumbledore that laws can be changed so that the Ministry would have more control of Hogwarts and Dumbledore. Eventually Harry is cleared of charges on a split vote, much to the disappointment of Fudge.
