Call Me Crazy: A woman stands beside me in a bookstore tonight screaming into her cell phone about the fact that people have told her she's too foreground.

"Am I? Maybe I just don't see myself clearly? Could they be right?"

She pauses for breath.

"Look, the phone's about to go dead."

A woman at the table of paperbacks next to me says: "Oh, please, let it die now."

About the name: Okay, I admit it, it's not original. But, truly, I've never read the works mentioned in the comments, but I will now that I've heard about them.

I learned about Golf for Cats a number of decades ago (yes, I am extremely old) as part of a discussion on bestsellers. It was said to be the ideal title. Along with the likes of The Golf for Cats Cookbook, Gardening for Cats, Lose Weight With the Help of a Loving Cat and Curing Your Cat's Slice.

Perhaps I should change the title to Lose Weight With the Help of a Loving Cat

Golf and recycling:Like photography magazines, golf magazines (and perhaps magazines about cats, for all I know) have only half a dozen articles that they recycle. And yet I buy them.

And I'm not an optimist. I know that if I cure my slice or add power I will only develop some other swing fault.

I said this wouldn't be about golf, but I lied.

Slooooow: To my dismay I find that test postings have been left up here for an hour or more and not removed, despite the fact that I have removed or edited them. The server appears to be, well, more than a tad slooooow. For this people would pay?

Rob Lowe: I worry about Rob Lowe's career. Now that he is being written out of The West Wing, what will happen? Is there a possiblity that there really are people who want to hire him to do other things on television? I can't see this being the case. Is this something I should be concerned about?
