Torture test: Tell your friends that you just have to see the latest Dana Carvey movie Master of Disguise.

Tell them if they truly like you they'll tag along.

Discover instantly who your real friends are.

Downside: If they agree to go, you'll have to see the movie.

Oh, yeah, that's right, I said "club": Went out to Nevada Bob's today to buy a golf glove. Announced this to my wife.

When I returned my wife said: "What kind of club did you get?"

A missed opportunity.

What kind of fool am I? All right, I've gone and done it. I've signed up for .Mac at the special half price deal for the first year. I thought, what the heck, I'll give it a shot. If it doesn't work out I won't renew next year.

But, is this wise of me? Have I not just encouraged Steve Jobs and the other folks at Apple into believing that they really do have a product that is worth what they're asking when it truly isn't?

Wouldn't it have been better to hold out until the very last Sept. 30th minute in the hopes that there would be a change of mind, or a massive increase in the number of goodies offered?

Will I actually pay $39.95 to continue to post here?

Digital pack rat: I am giving my old computer (last time I used it was about four months ago) to my wife. She has my previous old computer now, which is inadequate to her need to run Photoshop at a reasonable speed.

Anyway, in setting it up for her I came across many gigabytes of old applications, documents and the like. I cleaned off about half of it, but couldn't bear to let the other half go, even though I know, with almost absolute certainty, that I will never use it or need it again.

And yet. What if? Just maybe, lurking somewhere is a document containing the information as to the secret place that I've hidden my passport.

Okay, you're right, I wouldn't be able to find that passport document because I never give anything a sensible name.

I could transfer this digital overflow to my new machine, but this seems like a lot of work for not much return.

And I'm thinking its simpler to buy her a new USB scanner, rather than try to set up the old one plus a CD burner plus a Zip drive on a SCSI chain.

Maybe I just need a nap.
