Here's something from Adrian Zoot.
Adrian Who?
He's the author behind the Global Suburb weblog.
And what's that "something"?
He mentions an article in the Atlantic Monthly about introverts and how to understand them.
What's to understand?
That introverts are, by definition, quiet people who feel overwhelmed in multiple-person interactions but who aren't shy, misanthropic or arrogant; it's just that their thought process is completely internalized, as opposed to that of extroverts, whose thought processes demand to be externalized, that is, they need to talk out everything in order to sort it out.
Oh, I see! So you're thinking about your ultimate excuse to avoid the office party and brushing off your friends!
No, no, no. I'm just using this to understand why I feel like such a wreck when I've had to attend one of those events and why I can't make small talk with other people.
You're lying through your teeth. You only want to justify shutting yourself into your little womb of creature comforts and social isolation.
But it's true, dammit! Look, even Cary Tennis agrees!
Oh, so now Mr. Advice is an expert on behavioral psychology, huh? Kid, stop making excuses. Go out. Talk to people. Flirt with some girls. Get interested. Shake it off!
You know you don't really believe any of that.
Maybe not, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
