build your own slate
Slate's got this nifty feature that allows you to select any articles you want to published during the last week and either print them, e-mail them or compile them into a MS Reader e-book. (eBook? E-book? It'd be nice if everyone agreed on how to spell words with an "e-" prefix.) Since I usually can't get to read every single Slate article on the day it gets published, every Sunday I compile an e-book with the just ending week's content so I can download it into my Pocket PC and read it. Hey, a website on the go! With no live Internet connection!

However, I've been running into technical problems since last Sunday, namely...

Unable to build the specified eBook file:d:\ebook\X0a831f2a90d84b2188d3c1f16a6f6663\Slate.lit-63-Unable to complete operation. Try increasing available disk space.

Yes, the squirrels in charge of building my e-book are fizzling out. You think I should report this to technical support?

Subject: Problems saving Slate articles as an eBook

I'm using the "Build your own Slate" feature to save last week's articles as an eBook. However, I've been getting the following message on the browser window where the eBook is being compiled for the last two days: "Unable to build the specified eBook file:d:\ebook\X0a831f2a90d84b2188d3c1f16a6f6663\Slate.lit-63-Unable to complete operation. Try increasing available disk space." I get this no matter which articles I select or de-select.

I'm assuming this is a server error, since the D: drive in my computer is a DVD-ROM unit. Help, please?

Ah, what's the point. It probably ended up in the in-box of some disgruntled intern. Either them or an Indian guy whose job is about to be outsourced.

{Update, June 15, 2003}

Hey, the e-book feature is working again! Yeah...

I never got a response from technical support, though. (I found the issue had been fixed on my own.) Is that standard Microsoft policy?

{Edited on June 15, 2003. The date on the e-mail to technical support was corrected from "Sunday, February 16, 2003 1:56 PM" to "Tuesday, June 10, 2003 4:15 AM".}
