A bullet-filled video of the Columbine killers laughing, shooting and making gruesome asides was released Wednesday, raising new questions about the investigation and lessons from the deadliest school shooting in U.S. history.
The tape - made only six weeks before the April 20, 1999, shooting - is the most extensive release of a video portraying Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris. But the wisdom of publicizing the Rampart Range video, named for a forested, Douglas County area where it was filmed, quickly drew debate. . . .
Five people appear on the 15 ½-minute video: Harris, Klebold, Manes, his girlfriend Jessica Miklich, and Philip Duran, who introduced Manes to the killers. Manes was sentenced to six years prison and Duran received a four-year sentence.
The tape contains more gunshots than dialogue as the participants fire nearly 200 rounds at bowling pins and trees. Officials and others believe the video camera was passed around, with the various participants filming different portions of the tape.
