(Thanks to CaNaDiAn FaN for posting it at the Colby Donaldson thread on the Survivor All Stars section of FansOfRealityTV.)
Tracey: So, last time out, you were the challenge winning machine. (yeah) You gonna have the same strategy?
Colby: I had a good run last time (yeah) with the challenges. Umm..well things were a little different pertaining to that. Physically, I'm not nearly in the place I was the first time. I'm, I'm not in the kind of shape I was in umm..
Tracey: Yeah you look like you let yourself go, Colby.
Colby: No, I, I, I have, I, I really have but I'm okay with that. Umm..I'm gonna bring my middle game a little stronger this time.
Tracey: I think a lot of people are gonna look at you playing this game and say, "Okay, he's gonna come back and claim what was rightfully his." Do you feel that way?
Colby: Umm..a lot of people think that it's, yeah, that this is my chance to redeem myself or get a second chance at winning and that, "Surely he's gonna do it differently." In fact that may be the reason the producers even invited me. They scratched their heads and thought, "Surely this bozo won't give it up twice." I gotta tell you, I'm, I wouldn't change a thing. I would make that same decision again umm..if I were put in it with Tina, if the circumstances were the same, but it is dependent on who you're playing with and what the situation is. I made that decision based on, on Tina and her gameplay, and how competitive she was and the respect that I had for her as a player umm..partially on my word that I had given her that I would take her but also because I wanted to beat her. People thought I gave it to her and wanted her to win but hell no, I wanted to beat her. She was one of the best players there.
Tracey: Do you think you got a chance?
Colby: I really gotta tell you, I don't, I don't think I can, and uhh..I haven't thought about it once. I look back to Australia and you know, I was counting those millions for a long time, thinking, "What if," scenarios and I got a pretty good shot. This, no. I've, I've packed my bags. You can tell by the way people pack, prior to coming into this game because you're told, "If you are ejected from the game you need to have reading material and music and extra clothes and all of these things to bide your time while you're waiting for the game to conclude so you can go home." Going to Australia, I didn't have anything. I had a pair of shorts and a clean pair of underwear. Now I've got everything from an IPod with 4 000 songs on it to a stack of magazines to two duffel bags full of clothes. I, I can tell in my preparation for the game where my mind is and it's not, it's not on winning, I, I don't know think I should be here. (laughs) I'm here to have a good time and, ah, and umm..play the game that I love.
I referred to that interview a few days ago--stunned that he would let himself get out of shape. What was his agent thinking. But you could see the difference Sunday. Only half the hunk he used to be. But hot enough.
It will be interesting to see whether he can compete at the same level. This could trash my scenario of him possibly winning by sticking around awhile as an asset to the team, then getting enough lucky breaks to hold out a bit more, and then winning all the immunities to stay alive like last time. That was a longshot scenario when he was in top shape.
Really interesting to hear about the packing, though. My favorite little insight so far.
The short interview also reminded me why I like him so much. One of the few level heads around there.
