No seriously, good service from the IRS

No time to file my taxes with this deadline looming, so around 10:55 p.m. last evening, I filed the auto-extension. Thought it might be curse in itself, but I downloaded the form and discovered I could file the whole thing an make a payment over the phone.

I expected a nightmare, but it took fewer than five minutes. They answered right away, no human involved, good prompts, no excess bullshit. I was actually able to verify my identity, enter all the line items, provide my checking info--routing and account #--select a PIN, get a confirmation number and complete the whole process in that time.

Fasted, cheapest way I've ever filed and IRS form and made a payment in my life. Better than 99% of the companies I pay bills to.

Since when did the IRS start doing things right?

OK, back to work.

(Filed my story an hour ago, working on sidebars now. And taking a little breather.)
