The majority of the country finally comes to its senses on Iraq

Praise Jesus!

Finally, more than half the country has figured out what a big mistake we made. We finally reached the turning point. (Yes, I know this is yesterday's news, but this is my first chance to celebrate publicly.)

From AP:

WASHINGTON (AP) — For the first time, a majority of Americans say they think the United States made a mistake sending troops to Iraq, according to a poll released Thursday.

The CNN-USA Today-Gallup poll found that 54 percent of people say the war was a mistake, up from 41 percent who felt that way in early June.

The poll also found that more than half say the Iraq war has made the United States less safe from terrorism. Only a third said it made this country safer.

The finding that more than half now think the Iraq war was a mistake recalls the disillusionment of Americans in 1968 with the Vietnam War. The first time a majority said that was a mistake was in August 1968.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

What took you folks so long? Every heard of the British? It's not like we're the first country ever to get mired over there. They gave up eventually, too.

And that's 54 percent, AND a 13-point jump in one month. That pres is going right down the toilet.

(Too bad we didn't nominate someone against the war.)

And from NBC: (I pulled it off an AL paper, that added some AL-specific crap. That part actually gave me a little smirk):

Michael Moore’s controversial film "Fahrenheit 9/11" opened in Birmingham on the same day a nationwide poll showed that more than half of Americans believe the war with Iraq was a mistake. It’s the first time since the conflict began that a majority of people have expressed that opinion. . . .

At movie theaters across the country, lines were longer than expected for the first showing of "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Nice. It was already expected to be the biggest opening in history for a documentary by several multiples. BoxofficeGuru.com went into the weekend predicting $15 million. Let's see if we can top that.

(Too bad I can't join you. Pride weekend here, friends coming to visit, and a book proposal due--again, but really this time. I'm way overloaded already.)

A shame and a disgrace?

No, just idiotic.

Georgia Sen. Zell Miller, has endorsed Bush, and is now scheduled to speak at his convention.

And he votes like a hardcore R.

What is he waiting for? Why does he pretend to be a Democrat?

AP story has John Lewis calling his decision "a shame and a disgrace.'' I'm not sure I can agree with that. I just don't understand why the guy hasn't hopped the fence.

Back home finally, so much pent up to say

. . . But, no time to say it at the moment.

. . . But, I've been blabbing all week, in the comments section of the previous post.

You can read it all there for now, I'm move some up onto the main page later, and spill some more rants when I get a minute.

For now, let me just say how pissed I am about about the whole Jack Ryan affair. Despicable. Freaking puritan country.
