The superbowl has not kicked off, yet one hour ago, CNN posted an AP story with this passage:
With fans staying home Sunday for the big game, theaters were quiet, though key Academy Awards contenders including Focus Features' best-picture front-runner Brokeback Mountain benefited from last week's nominations.
"The Super Bowl is one of those television events like the Academy Awards that really dominates and monopolizes the audience," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations.
Huh. Where did they get the time machine?
I realize the media routinely reports weekend box office "estimates," which are actually complete projections for Sunday.
But it's one thing to report projected figures, another to describe actual physical scenes which have not yet taken place.
The CNN site says it was posted at 5:34 p.m. EST. And googlenews says the San Jose Mercury News posted it 4 hours ago, which would be around 2:45 EST, 11:45 a.m. PST.
How long do you think it took them to write and edit that story and get it out on the wire? How many theaters had even begun their matinees when he was "reporting" that?
Didn't Mitch Albom face a scandal for doing something like that on a sports event?
