A Whole New Blog
I've just published this weblog with my new template. The CSS is better, and I hope the whole blog is a bit cleaner-looking. I'm already getting a severe case of buyers remorse, so if you like it, a little ego boost would be nice.

If you don't like it, then by all means, employ honesty.

And if you have even a splash of design knowlege, then a laundry list of my most egregious sins would be welcomed.

The thingy in the let sidebar is something I'm trying out. It come across a lot of things that I like, but I don't see any need to comment on, but I think some people might find interesting. From now on, I'll just put those over there.

It isn't a new idea--I've seen it in a number of weblogs, though it was Patrick's implementation that moved me to do it here, though it wasn't his innovation either.

It may last, it may vanish by Monday--depends on my mood. Right now the links are skimpy, and kind of old--Gabe's been a nut these past few days, and I've been working on the new template, so I haven't been surfing much. It will grow soon.

Anyway, tomorrow is the big day--The Blade runs the blogging article, and hopefully I will appear in it. I am certain that boundless fame and endless wealth will soon follow.

Seven Days in May
I love it when Republican legisators admit to planning a coup.

In writing.

And then it goes public.

Texas state Republicans, planning a mid-decade redistricting of congressional seats, analyised thier own plan, and Joby Fortson, an aid to US rep. Joe Barton, wrote an e-mail about the analysis that concluded that:

This is the most aggressive map I have ever seen. This has a real national impact that should assure that Republicans keep the House no matter the national mood.

I tried, but you can't spin that statement in any way to make it worse. "Assure that Republicans keep the House no matter the national mood."

I mean, wow . . . I don't even have words.

Oh yeah, the Texas House Speaker wants to jigger the system so that an area now represented by a Democratic congressman would go to a personal friend of President Bush.

The final issue centered on the insistence of Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick (R) on getting a new district anchored by his hometown of Midland and designed to be represented by K. Michael Conaway, a friend and former oil business partner of Bush. In his analysis, Fortson said the new 11th District, now represented by Edwards, would be "very Republican" and would switch to the GOP next year.
