Does George Bush Want Us to Vote for Him?
A puzzling passage from President Bush's remarks in Toledo:

The march to war affected our psychology and confidence. It is hard to be optimistic about the future when you turn on your TV screens and say, America is marching to war. War is not positive. War is -- it sends the signal that there will be uncertainty. We're not marching to peace.

Who Will Retrain the Trainers?
President Bush came to Toledo today to tout his new commitment to community colleges and their role in retraining workers for new jobs.

I'd be more inclined to accept this at face value if the two-year college--Owens Community College-- he came to Toledo to praise for its efforts in this area hadn't just laid off six workers in its Center for Development and Training which specializes in--what else?-- retraining workers. The loss of the workers will leave the Center unable to fulfill its mission.

Dr. Conrad, who has been at the college for almost eight years, said he worries about whether the programs will be able to function adequately with the reduction in personnel.

"It has to be detrimental," he said. "We don[base ']t have the manpower to continue the level of service to the community."

Mrs. Brecht, 40, who said she helps put together classes and make sure there are enough instructors, indicated the move will leave Findlay[base ']s Center for Development and Training with only half its manpower.

God. it's like living in a Monty Python skit.
