What I Did On My Weekend
On Sunday me, Andy, Charlie, his girlfreind Helen, plus a couple of thousand other people... ...met up in London to see the annual Oxford v. Cambridge boat race. It took a while for us to get into position on the south side of the Thames at Putney Bridge as there were so many people, and we had to take a detour around the boat club where all the rowers were stashed. Handily, on the way we happened accross a shop selling light and dark blue iced buns (and non-commital white ones), which made it an all the more worthwhile diversion.
Anyway, we got to see the start and the boats go racing past. Like with horse racing, you don't actually see an awfull lot at these events, just "Oh, look! Some far off dots! Wow, they've turned into rowers! Oh, now they're far-off dots again..." After this 10 seconds or so of excitement we listened to the final result on the radio (Oxford won, by a hair) and then retired to the pub to wait for the crowds to die down before catching the tube back.
