The Allegations
Allegation 1: Bush Profited from a Corrupt Property Deal Status: Proven
The value of the Rangers team increased as much as it did because the owners managed to persuade the local taxpayers to build them a stadium at their expense and essentially give it to the team owners for free. Thats not all that the team owners got however, the owners also profited by buying nearby development rights at cut rates using the county's condemnation powers.
Allegation 2: When Govenor of Texas Bush accepted a gift of $10 million from his partners. Status: Proven
Bush's share of the Rangers would have entitled him to $4.5 million when the team was sold. Instead he got $15 million because the other owners gave up part of their share. What was this if not an illegal and undeclared gift of $10 million to the Govenor?
Allegation 3: Embezelment of University of Texas Funds. Status: Not yet Proven
There is a curious connection between the purchaser of the Rangers stadium and Texas University funds which were placed under private management by Bush. While at this point nobody can prove that this connection was corrupt, the lack of transparency is due entirely to the actions of Bush as Govenor.
