No Code - Comfort Care Only
If there has to be a theme, it probably concerns the universal and simultaneous presence of beauty and stupidity, present in generally equal, but ever-shifting measure

NO CODE - No heroic measures, please. Let me go as nature intended and I promise not to make a fuss. Reasons for a No Code: terminal illness, four-more-years, FM radio, a Pamela Anderson "reality" show, religious fundamentalists of all stripes, the O'Reilley Factor.

COMFORT CARE - let's make the rest of the journey as tolerable as possible. Includes: music of almost all kinds, sex, food, discussions on the nature of God, the smell of strawberries, good writing, actress Lili Taylor, author Richard Russo, shortstop Omar Visquel.

"expression is the need of my soul." These were the first words of Archy the Cockroach - a vers libre poet died and transmigrated into the body of a cockroach as recorded in the early part of the last century by New York writer Don Marquis. Seven words that sum up the need of us all. If there is any reason for the existence of blogs in general, and this one in particular, it is that need to give life to the expressions of our souls. If a blog falls in the ether and no one reads it, my soul's expression still takes place. But if, by chance or design, someone reads, reacts, possibly responds . . . all the better!

This is for me, I guess - a particularly public form of mental masturbation. But it's also for you if you want, keeping in mind that opinions are like assholes - everybody's got one.

NO CODE - It seems as if we're definitely going to invade Iraq. Maybe there's a good reason to do so, even though it will engender the eternal wrath of the remaining three or four non-citizen Muslims who don't already hate the U.S. Two things seem odd (alright, probably more than two, but these two for now) 1 - there has been no spirited public debate, no examination of the pros and cons, no attempt to engage the ideas and passions of the American people. The idea has been floated like a Stealth Bomber - just under the radar and with decidedly little fanfare, almost as if (d'ya think?) the Bushies don't want public input in the decision; and 2 - the "war" (a declaration of which remains to be heard) will be conveniently timed to take place before the Fall elections, taking peoples' minds off the economy and directing them back toward the tumescent militray posturing of Rumsfeld, Cheney, et al. Oh yeah, and the President!

COMFORT CARE - from GWBush.com- the bumperstickers that adorn my car: "I Don't Have to Lke Bush to Love America" and "Dissent. It's Not America Without It", reminders that a democracy encourages dissent and the free expression of ideas. One of the many wonders of this country is that I can proclaim that GW Bush is an elitist, posturing fool and the puppet of CEOs everywhere and not have to worry that the state police will come knocking on my door in the middle of the night like they did in so many dictatorships supported by our government. Of course, if there are enough amendments to the homeland security bill, this could all chnage over night. But for now . . .

COMFORT CARE - this was typed while listening the beautiful music of Gigi - an Ethiopian woman whose voice sounds sexily light, sensuously airy and, though I can't understand a word, I understand that she is singing to me, singing right now and with a joyous heart. Singing to you, too, if you care to listen.
