There are names I like, names of patients I've seen over the years, names you may be tempted to think I made up, but I haven't. Some of them, like Zedekiah Steplight or Japonica Hawke have a pleasing sound - they're just fun to say. Some remind me of the Indian custom of naming the child after the first thing one sees. How else to explain naming one's child Lavoris or Pampers? And some names simply evoke wonder, as in "I wonder what the parents could possibly have been thinking?" - names such as Aquatalatakia and the unfortunate Contwana C. Cephus. I kept the names in a book. Stamped up labels from their ED plates and collected them. name after name that was either unusual, whimsical or just plain fun. Romerol, Alpacino (one word!),Phallawn, Lavada, Myonda, Aquanetta. Clara Crump, Verdis Pope, Melvette Sockwell, Gawain Minor, Winifred Wiggley, Welvel Bloom, Navita Speed. God, I've got lots more just like these! Around two of the names, I managed to create a small fantasy: Dayshaun Danny Gideon and Dewdrop Dunn. Gideon and Dunn were baseball players with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1954. Gideon was a .250 hitting second baseman with a good glove. Dunn was a utility infielder who played with six other teams before being traded to the Cards. He and Gideon were roommates on the road. For some reason, those two names seem to go together like no others. Cleveland Washington, Isabelle Lafoon, Cloudy Meeks - I swear to you I am not making these up! Sunday Smith, Royce Mango,Ronnie Roney, Deadrain Peacock (honestly!). Pecolia Standberry, Trancieta Norman, Reverend Napoleon Beaver! Pearline Lard! Revish Peoples,Jr.(!), (stop me!) Dontave Cowsette, Rhatita Ratchford and, of course, Myron Lashawn Willie Leeth. I can't leave out Twinette and Bunrist, Tide and Dertone. From one page there is Span Peoples, Gurtharee Cheeks, Tatianiah Paris, Cellier Collier and Willie Gooch. Stop me! There are more! Many, many more! Argghhh!!!
